Why CTET September 2026 Matters

I have mentored thousands of teaching aspirants, and I always say the same thing: CTET is not just another exam. It is your lifetime passport to government teaching jobs.

The CBSE published the CTET September 2026 Information Bulletin (22nd Edition) on 11th May 2026, and the application window is open right now. This single certificate, once you clear it with 60% or more, unlocks opportunities in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS), DSSSB, Army Public Schools, and state government schools across the country. With the certificate now valid for a lifetime, one determined attempt can secure your career permanently. The exam date is 6th September 2026, which gives you just under four months. That timeline is tight but completely achievable if you start today with a clear plan.

Eligibility Criteria – Check Before Applying

CBSE follows the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) regulations to determine eligibility. Here is the official breakdown.

Age Limit

  • Minimum age: 18 years as of the last date of the examination.
  • Maximum age: No upper age limit applies for CTET.
  • Since there is no upper age ceiling, the concept of age relaxation does not apply. Candidates of any age above 18 are welcome.

Educational Qualification

Paper I (Classes 1 to 5 – Primary Stage)
Any one of the following:

  • Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), or
  • Senior Secondary with at least 45% marks and a 2-year D.El.Ed (as per NCTE 2002 norms), or
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed), or
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education), or
  • Graduation in any stream with a 2-year D.El.Ed.

Paper II (Classes 6 to 8 – Upper Primary Stage)
Any one of the following:

  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 1-year or 2-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), or
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks and a 1-year B.Ed (as per NCTE norms), or
  • Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed, or
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a B.Ed (Special Education).

Candidates who are in the final year of any of these qualifying courses are also eligible to apply.

Reservation Relaxation in Qualifying Marks
SC, ST, OBC, and PwD candidates receive a 5% relaxation in the minimum qualifying percentage required for educational eligibility.

Language Requirement
The CTET question paper is conducted in 27 languages, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, and Maithili (newly added from September 2026). You can choose your preferred language when filling out the application.

Pay Scale and Salary Note
CTET is a qualifying eligibility test, not a direct recruitment exam. There is no salary attached to the certificate itself. After qualifying, you become eligible to apply for teaching vacancies in organizations where the starting salary typically ranges from ₹35,000 to ₹55,000 or more per month, depending on the recruiting body and the post.

Selection Process and Exam Pattern – Stage by Stage

CTET is a single-stage written examination with no interview. You appear for Paper I, Paper II, or both, clear the cutoff, and get the certificate.

How to Apply – Step-by-Step

Follow these steps to complete your CTET September 2026 application form without any errors.

Step 1: Visit the official website ctet.nic.in. Bookmark it immediately because you will return to it repeatedly throughout the process.

Step 2: Click on the “Apply Online” link for CTET September 2026.

Step 3: Complete the new registration. Enter your name, parent’s name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, and Aadhaar details if you wish. Save your registration number and password somewhere safe.

Step 4: Log in with your credentials and fill in the detailed application form. Select your paper choice (Paper I, Paper II, or both), language preference, and other required details. Please note that for September 2026, the option to choose a preferred exam city has been removed. Cities are allotted randomly from the 132 available centers.

Step 5: Upload the scanned documents. A recent passport-size photograph in JPEG format and a signature on white paper with a black pen in JPEG format are required.

Step 6: Pay the application fee online using a debit card, credit card, or net banking.

CategoryOnly Paper I or IIBoth Papers
General / OBC (NCL)₹1,000₹1,200
SC / ST / PwD₹500₹600

Step 7: Review all the entered data carefully. Once you are confident everything is correct, click “Final Submit”.

Step 8: Download and print the Confirmation Page. Keep at least two copies. This is your official proof of application.

My advice: keep your scanned photo and signature ready before you begin the registration. Use only JPEG format and ensure the file sizes match the specifications mentioned in the official notification. The name you enter must match exactly with the name on your Class 10 certificate. Even a minor spelling mismatch can create serious problems later.

Vacancy and Reservation Details

CTET is a qualifying test, not a recruitment exam. Consequently, no fixed vacancies are announced under this notification. Once you obtain your CTET certificate, you become eligible to apply for teaching posts in various organizations, including Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), DSSSB, Army Public Schools, state government schools, and other CBSE-affiliated institutions. Reservation benefits such as SC, ST, OBC, PwD, and EWS are applied by these recruiting bodies during actual recruitment, not at the CTET eligibility test stage. At the CTET level, reservation only provides the 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks for educational eligibility and in the final qualifying score.

Important Points and Pro-Tips

Official Points to Note

  • Exam City Allocation: For the September 2026 cycle, CBSE assigns exam cities randomly from the 132 available cities. No requests for a change of city will be entertained.
  • Multiple Exam Dates: If the number of candidates is very high, the examination may be held on both 5th and 6th September 2026. Your specific date will be allotted randomly and cannot be changed.
  • Correction Window: The correction window is open from 15th June to 18th June 2026. After this period, no modifications are allowed under any circumstances. If you make a mistake in the initial form, this is your only chance to fix it.
  • Certificate Validity: The CTET qualifying certificate is now valid for a lifetime. There is no expiry, and you can use it for recruitment at any point in your career.
  • No Attempt Limit: You can appear for CTET as many times as you wish to improve your score.
  • Job Guarantee Clarification: Qualifying CTET does not guarantee a job. It only makes you eligible to apply for teacher vacancies. Final selection depends on the recruiting body’s own process.

Pro-Tips from Your Mentor

  • Begin with previous year papers. The CTET September 2026 question paper will mirror the pattern of CTET 2024, 2025, and February 2026. PYQs are the best way to identify recurring topics and understand the actual difficulty level.
  • Do not overlook the pedagogy section. The 30 marks in Child Development and Pedagogy often decide the final result. Study Piaget, Kohlberg, and Vygotsky thoroughly, and practice at least 200 multiple-choice questions from this section.
  • Language sections are high-scoring. Language I and II together carry 60 marks, and reading comprehension requires relatively less preparation. Start your day with two unseen passages.
  • Set up DigiLocker in advance. After qualifying, your certificate will be issued through DigiLocker. Link your Aadhaar now to avoid last-minute technical hurdles.
  • Use reliable books. R.S. Aggarwal for Mathematics pedagogy, Wiley or Pearson CTET guides for Papers I and II, and NCERT textbooks from Classes 1 to 8 for all content sections. NCERT is your most important resource.
  • Download the admit card immediately once it is released around 4th September 2026. Check your allotted city instantly. If the center is far from your home, book travel and accommodation without delay, as prices rise quickly.
